A tragedy for Barcelona. Gavi tears his ACL, will miss 9 months and the EURO
Ever since Sunday’s game, Gavi limped off in tears, it was suspected, but now it has an official stamp. The Barcelona chic has torn the cruciate ligament in his knee and his season is over. He will miss the summer EURO.
Ever since Sunday’s game, Gavi limped off in tears, it was suspected, but now it has an official stamp. The Barcelona chic has torn the cruciate ligament in his knee and his season is over. He will miss the summer EURO.
Meanwhile, the November national break is an injury nightmare. Real Madrid have lost Eduardo Camavinga and Vinicius Junior for at least 2 months, Manchester City are worried about Erling Haaland who has an ankle problem, Barcelona are worried about Marc-Andre ter Stegen and now another blow has come.
In Sunday’s qualifier against Georgia, Gavi had to hobble off the pitch in the first half and the first suspicion was – a torn ACL. Such a dreaded yet relatively common injury among footballers.
That was confirmed this morning and Gavi will be out for about 9 months. He will not only miss the rest of the season, but also the summer EURO in Germany. He should return during the preparation for the new season.
Real Madrid have already lost Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao due to torn ligaments in the knee, and Neymar has also suffered the same problem.
Arsenal’s Jurien Timber’s knee also required a nine-month break, as did Tottenham’s Ivan Perisic. Tammy Abraham of AS Roma and Yeremy Pino of Villarreal are also suffering from the same problem.
Gavi has hit 15 games in a Barcelona jersey this season, in 13 of them he has started in the starting lineup. He added six games for the national team.
He made his debut for the Blaugranas at the age of 17, and the 19-year-old has already played 111 matches, 89 of which he has started from the first minute.
