The Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club is, among other things, a showcase of par shots that sometimes lift spectators around the local greens out of their seats. This year’s edition of golf’s most famous tournament produced the first hole-in-one in the second round.

Forty-eight-year-old player Stewart Cink took care of it. On hole number 16, he put his ball on the tee and sent it skyward towards the green.

Although the ball landed quite far from the hole at first, it began to roll slowly down the slope towards the hole thanks to the extremely fast greens at Augusta. To the amazement of all present, after a few exciting seconds it hid in the hole on the green of the 16th hole.

The 2009 major champion at The Open dedicated the ace he played to his son, who is caddying for him at the tournament. In fact, young Reagan Cink celebrated his birthday on the same day.

It all played out when it was clear that Cink had no chance of making the cut after the second round. In the end, the American golfer finished with a +7 at this year’s Masters.

In the long history since the Masters was played in 1934, it was the 24th hole-in-one on the 16th hole.

Stewart Cink is already considered more of a veteran on the PGA Tour, yet he is still a successful player. His last triumph came a year ago, at Harbour Town Golf Links as part of the RBC Heritage tournament.
