Formula 3 has its last race of the season this weekend. Seven drivers with a chance for the title have arrived at the Monza circuit, including Czech talent Roman Stanek.
The Czech driver was third in Friday’s qualifying behind teammate Zane Maloney. Championship leader Victor Martins will start Sunday’s main race fourth.
You can see the Drivers’ Cup standings ahead of the sprint race in the Twitter post below.
Great ride for Bearman, nightmare for Hadjar
The first drama after the start came from turn three, which saw contact between Victor Martins and Arthur Leclerc. Both drivers continued to race, but the Frenchman dropped to last place.
The Czech driver also failed to start. Stanek dropped out of the points to eleventh place. For the rest of the race, the Trident driver hovered around ninth place until the final laps, when he dropped back to eleventh behind Martins.
Martins showed why he leads the championship with a great performance. In an 18-lap race that was still affected by the safety car, he fought his way through almost the entire field to finish in last place on points.
Oliver Bearman also had a great run, going from seventh place to a battle for first place with Franco Colapinto.
The Argentine emerged victorious from the duel and Bearman had to settle for second place. This gave him an important nine points for the championship and brought him within striking distance of the front of the field.
On the other hand, Isack Hadjar had a terrible weekend. He lost control of his car in qualifying at the Parabolica corner and was forced to retire after hitting the barrier. He will start Sunday’s race 16th.
Saturday was even worse for the French driver. After contact on the opening lap, he had to make a pit stop due to damage to his front wing. He reached the finish in last place.
The championship will thus be decided in Sunday’s main race. Eighteen points behind Roman Stanek, he still has a chance for the title. But he has to rely not only on his good performance, but also on the poor performance of Victor Martins.
