A symbolic win! Alcaraz’s coach reveals why Zverev was a problematic ward
The French Open final between Alcaraz and Zverev had an interesting plot. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who coaches Alcaraz, was previously in charge of his final opponent. Why does he enjoy working with his compatriot more than the previous stage of his coaching career?
The French Open final between Alcaraz and Zverev had an interesting plot. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who coaches Alcaraz, was previously in charge of his final opponent. Why does he enjoy working with his compatriot more than the previous stage of his coaching career?
Zverev as a player
Alexander Zverev is a great tennis player. He is an Olympic champion and, especially at the French Open, he has shown great strength many times.
Two years ago he was injured in the legendary semi-final duel with Nadal. This year he played Alcaraz for the title at Roland Garros.
And it was Alcaraz’s coach Ferrero who previously coached the Hamburg native. The Spaniard also revealed what caused the end of his services to the lanky tennis player.
First and foremost, the problem is his inconsistency. According to Ferrero, this characteristic predisposes him to play long five-set battles at the majors.
Zverev also allows himself to be distracted by many things. The Spaniard names phone calls or social networking as examples.
“We also clashed because of a lack of punctuality and respect for my team,” adds the 2003 French Open winner. And it was this year’s French Open that brought a symbolic duel between Alcaraz and Zverev in the final.
A symbolic final
Ferrero was on the winning side, his current charge defeating the German in five sets. Alcaraz thus wrote another interesting chapter of world tennis in golden letters.
But it is not only who he beat in his last match that is symbolic. Zverev was again leading 2:1 in sets and could not turn a promising match into his first Grand Slam title.
