Tuesday’s match with Monaco set a mirror to Sparta Prague. The Prince’s team managed to win 2:0 and showed that there is a lot to work on. How did Pavel Vrba evaluate the match?

Not only in terms of results, but also in terms of performance, Monaco was better than Sparta in the match. Nevertheless, coach Pavel Vrba praised the commitment and effort of his charges. He is aware of the quality of the opponent.

“We can regret the chance we had at 0:0 when Hložek did not convert with his head. We got a cheap goal from a standard when we didn’t cover a player. We met an excellent team that showed us where we are and where they are, said the Sparta coach.

So he is not too optimistic about the rematch. He knows that his charges would have to score the first goal, but after that anything could happen. He wants to go to Monaco to make the match at least more dramatic.

There is a difference when we talk about our league and the team that I think will play in the Champions League group. It’s enough for our league, but for the Champions League some players will have to step up. They gave in a little bit and didn’t give the performance they are capable of.”

During and after the match, racism from the Leiden fans had to be addressed. The Sparta coach merely stated that he did not understand some of the fans, but neither did some of the players. He did not comment further on the incident.

Until recently, Vrba then fumed that he did not have to deal with any absentees. But now it is different. When asked if there are plans for further reinforcements, he replied that he still has to discuss it with the management and that some things are still open.
