After qualifying for Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, it looked like Ferrari had a really solid chance of winning the race. And also to break Red Bull’s winning streak.
Charles Leclerc started the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from pole position, with his teammate Carlos Sainz starting from number four.
But at the stroke of lap nine, it was Sainz who had to call an early end to his run in the eighth race of the season. The Spanish driver’s brake-by-wire system, the electronic control of the braking system, failed.
This left Monaco’s Leclerc as Ferrari’s only representative in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. However, even he would not finish Sunday’s race, as his engine failed at the end of the 20th lap and started to smoke.
This is a negative “double” as neither of the Ferrari drivers will continue the race. The Italian team loses very valuable points in the fight for the title.
The Red Bull Racing team, whose drivers are currently leading the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is currently on its way to victory.
Max Verstappen holds the first place after 28 laps, Sergio Pérez is in second place and the last podium position belongs to George Russell in a Mercedes.
