A show of beautiful goals in Manchester. United reacted to the debacle perfectly

Manchester United made it through to the opening eight of the Europa League, beating Betis Sevilla 4-1 at Old Trafford in an ideal response to their 0-7 defeat to Liverpool. The rematch will therefore be more of a formality.

Wout Weghorst opened the net in the fourth minute, but his shot was not ruled offside. Two minutes later, the stands were celebrating. Marcus Rashford was well positioned in the penalty area and opened the scoring with a shot under the crossbar.

The Devils kicked the goal and could have increased their lead in the 17th minute, but Weghorst failed to hit the post in front of the goalkeeper. And ten minutes later, Weghorst missed a third time in front of the goalkeeper, this time in a slip.

In the 32nd minute, the opponents equalised from their first chance, with a good half-volley by Ayoze Perez. Betis were better after that and almost took the lead ten minutes later, Perez hitting the bar after an error by David de Gea.

After the change of sides, the home side were more active again and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Brazilian Anthony swept a beautiful shot from the penalty spot off the back post. And five minutes later Manchester were two goals up.

A corner found Bruno Fernandes at the front post, who made no mistake with his header. In the 63rd minute, Anthony could have made the final decision, but instead of passing in front of an empty net, he finished with an inaccurate shot.

The Brazilian international did not take advantage of a lie in the 80th minute, this time Claudio Bravo knocked his attempt away for a corner. In the 83rd minute, Weghorst was enough to hit the visitors’ exposed net after a corner kick.

The home side still missed a couple of decent chances at the end, but will go into the rematch in Spain with a three-goal lead after a 4-1 triumph. The game in Seville is a week away.
