West Ham drew 2-2 with Leicester in the 25th round of the Premier League. After an uninspiring first thirty minutes, Youri Tielemans’ goal opened the game at 1: 1, the Hammers can be happy for a point considering the performance.
The goal came from the first chance of the game. Jarrod Bowen ran in behind the defence, broke away from the defenders and ripped a left-footed shot into the net. After that, the game went on as we’re used to at West Ham. The opposition held the ball, but were toothless against the Hammers’ well-worked defence.
It wasn’t until the 38th minute that Youri Tielemans got a hand to the ball, but he couldn’t get it between the three posts. Six minutes later Aaron Cresswell played his hand in the whitewash and the referee pointed to the spot. Tielemans took the ball and sent it to the left post.
Cresswell could have atoned for his mistake a few minutes earlier, but his attempt was blocked by the Foxes defence.
After the change of sides, the home side were active, especially Harvey Barnes, who troubled Vladimir Coufal on his side and almost scored in the 55th minute. His inaccurate shot was put to rest by Ricardo Pereira, whose header in the 58th minute gave Lukasz Fabianski no chance.
A rampant Leicester subsequently guarded the match, the width of the squad was evident in West Ham’s play, certainly not something to write home about. It wasn’t until the 85th minute that the visiting Said Benrahma had a stab at goal, but he headed just wide of the target.
In the first minute of stoppage time, the game was finally level. Craig Dawson shouldered a centre from the corner flag into the right-hand post. The points were shared after a 2-2 draw.
