Will there be a shock transfer in the Premier League? According to the latest British media reports, Aleksander Isak has hinted at his departure from Newcastle. The question remains where he could head to in such a case, with Arsenal interest being talked about.
The Swedish forward transferred to Newcastle at the end of August 2022, with the English club sending €70 million (£63 million) to Real Sociedad’s coffers for him.
From an individual point of view, Isak actually had his best season in Spain a year after arriving from the Eredivisie, netting 17 goals in 34 games in 2020/21. After his move to England, he immediately became a very important player, netting 10 goals in 22 league games.
He’s done even better in the current campaign, so it’s no wonder he’s starting to attract serious interest. Isak has scored 12 accurate shots in his 22 league starts so far, plus he has added four more in cup clashes.
The Solna native is under contract at Newcastle until the end of June 2028, but his departure is certainly realistic. In an interview with Swedish Expressen, he admitted it himself.
“Somehow I don’t think about it. It’s been talked about in several transfer windows. I take it as a normal thing. Everybody knows that something may come up in the summer and it may happen that I will leave, but at the moment I am not thinking about it,” said Isak, whose words were also quoted by talkSPORT.
Isak to Arsenal?
It must be added, Bruno Guimaraes has also been linked with a move away from Newcastle. However, according to the British media, Arsenal London have shown interest in the Swedish marksman. The latter was already considering signing him when Isak was still playing for Real Sociedad.
The Gunners are already starting to think about the summer transfer window. They are said to be looking for a new striker, whether it is a playmaker or a winger.
Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao and Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton are also currently on Arsenal’s radar.
