The star-studded Paris Saint-Germain team is having a disastrous start to the new year. The French giant leads the table of the top French competition with a five-point lead over second-placed Olympique Marseille. However, it was the club from the south of France that knocked PSG out of the cup a week ago.

Fans of the Parisian big club then got another blow on Tuesday. Their team lost 0:1 to Bayern Munich in the first home game of the Champions League eight-finals.

It is the rematch with the Bavarian giants, scheduled for 8 March at Munich’s Allianz Arena, that is set to be decisive for PSG manager Christophe Galtier.

the 56-year-old coach, who took the helm of the star-studded team last July, has signed a two-year contract with the club. However, according to French daily RMC, Galtier is set to have a knife to his throat from the club’s management.

If Galtier fails to lead his team to the Champions League quarter-finals, he will be sacked.

The sheikh still hopes to sign Zidane

Although much of the criticism from fans has been directed at the players, led by the star trio of Mbappé – Messi – Neymar, who are accused of a lack of effort and professionalism, the spotlight is now also on the coach. Although the club’s owner, the Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has not yet begun talks to sack Galtier, media reports suggest he is still hoping to bring in the former world football star.

Zidane was already supposed to be the first choice in replacing the sacked Mauricio Pochettino before the season, but the deal did not materialise then. But the former Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup champion with the France national team could be the answer to the team’s troubled communication with the star-studded cabinet.

But RMC further reports that some club officials are reportedly thinking about a shock return for Thomas Tuchel. The German coach led the Parisians for two and a half years, winning Ligue 1 with the team and leading them to their first, but unsuccessful, Champions League final.

But he left the French capital at the end of 2020 and headed to Chelsea in London, where he finally won the millionaire competition. However, he was unable to build on his success the following season and was sacked by management in September 2022.
