  • England fell to Spain in the Euro final
  • The lanky striker made no secret of his disappointment

England didn’t make it in the end. The team from the cradle of football made it through to the final for the second EURO in a row, but fell short to their opponents. It was a strong Spain that won.

Unlike England, they were consistent in their performances. But if some fans are bothered by England’s defeat, it will also be because of Harry Kane. The Bayern striker is still waiting for the team trophy.

He is a huge underdog because he is definitely one of the best strikers in the world. However, he didn’t get the coveted championship even after joining Bayern Munich, whose domestic trophies were snatched away by Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane on his failure at the Euros

“It’s hard to put into words how we all feel right now. Another difficult moment for the team and for me personally. It’s a missed opportunity. It’s not easy to get to these finals. When it comes, you have to take your chances and we didn’t do that again,” Kane said at a press conference.

“The tournament was physically and mentally tough. You get so close to the highest of peaks, the pinnacle of your career, and now all of us are at the lowest point. We just haven’t found a way to win the trophy. We didn’t take the final step. It‘s extremely painful to lose a second final in a row and it’s going to hurt for a long time,” he added.

England have not played eye-catching football since the start of the Euros and much of the criticism has been directed at coach Gareth Southgate in particular. His continuation on the bench is now under threat.

“We have made it clear that we love him. It will be his decision, now is not the time to talk about it. Right now, all we feel is pain. Anyway, we wanted to win for him as well,” Kane concluded.
