Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal helped West Ham to the Europa League, so coach David Moyes has to think about strengthening the squad. And he would like to add former Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez to his ranks.
Alexis Sanchez started his career in Europe at Udinese, where he was scouted by Barcelona. He had a successful three years at the Catalan club, scoring 46 goals. In his last season, he appeared in 34 league games and scored 19 goals, but he wanted a bigger role in the team, so he left for Arsenal.
He immediately became a star in London and scored an impressive 80 goals in three and a half years at the Emirates Stadium. But Arsenal were more or less pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps and yearned for a change. He wanted to leave for a club where he would win trophies regularly.
So he chose the famous Manchester United, but that engagement failed miserably. In two years he only played 45 competitive games, scoring only three times in the league and twice in the FA Cup. The management ran out of patience and sent him to Inter Milan because of his huge salary.
Even under coach Conte he couldn’t catch on much, last season and this one he was almost regularly starting only from the bench. Still, he contributed to Inter’s title with a 7+7 record. However, the big Milan club is in a big financial crisis, so it needs to sell the players who are the biggest burden on the club’s coffers.
And West Ham could take advantage of that. The team of two Czech national team players needs to strengthen the squad, which is very narrow. And according to Spanish daily Estadio Deportivo, the 32-year-old winger could be the one to come in. He would certainly come in handy for David Moyes if he follows up on his previous performances in London.
However, Sevilla are also interested in the Chilean. The Andalusian side have secured the Champions League, plus they have a lot of experience with similar older players who don’t want to call it a career just yet. Last year it brought Ivan Rakitic (33) from Barcelona, and in the winter Papu Gomez (33) came from Atalanta.
