A quick end on return? UFC boss won’t be surprised if Jon Jones quits after next fight
Jon Jones is back. He signed an eight-fight deal with the UFC and has one fight under his belt, but the next one could be his last. At least that’s what organization boss Dana White is suggesting.
Jon Jones is back. He signed an eight-fight deal with the UFC and has one fight under his belt, but the next one could be his last. At least that’s what organization boss Dana White is suggesting.
It’s taken over three years, but we’re here. The legendary Jon Jones is back and already holding a title again. This time at heavyweight, after he handled Ciryl Gano with aplomb.
The next opponent of the best fighter in history will most likely be Stipe Miocic. He too is currently on a long layoff and could be an interesting challenge for Jones.
After all, Jones has made no secret of it. “I’ve never had a fight that meant more to me than beating Stipe. I’ve never fought someone who is considered the best heavyweight of all time,” Jones let slip after his win over Gan.
Jones has had many great fights, but as he points out, none of his previous opponents were seen as the best of all time at that weight. Therefore, he has high hopes that the fight with Miocic will be very attractive to the entire combat sports world.
“This is the kind of thing that is amazing. The best MMA fighter of all time will face the best heavyweight of all time. It’s fantastic, it’s exactly the kind of fight you dream about,” UFC boss Dana White told TMZ Sports.
As of now, there has been no official announcement of this duel, however, it is believed to be very close. Miocic revealed that the fight has been offered to him and it is widely expected that the bout should happen in July.
However, the UFC boss hinted at a surprising scenario that could occur after the fight. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Jones quit after the Miocic fight and never fought again,” White said.
Jones is 35 years old, and he hasn’t talked more or less about retirement for now. The words of the UFC head are all the more surprising. Will the fight with Miocic really be the last one?
