A problem for Krejcikova? Participation in the WTA Finals is slipping away
In the last few months, Barbora Krejcikova has not been doing very well, which is why her participation in the Champions Tournament is slipping away. She is currently ranked 16th in the 2023 rankings.
In the last few months, Barbora Krejcikova has not been doing very well, which is why her participation in the WTA Finals is slipping away. She is currently ranked 16th in the 2023 rankings.
Barbora Krejčíková’s only participation in the WTA Finals in singles so far was in 2021, which she won mainly by winning the French Open, to which she added trophies from Strasbourg and Prague.
In the group stage, she faced Anett Kontaveit, Garbine Muguruza and Karolina Pliskova. Unfortunately, she didn’t score a single win and finished in last place, but it was a very valuable experience.
The native of Ivančice has also started the current season in a great way. At the Australian Open, she reached the eighth round, where she fell short to Pegula. At the end of February she won the trophy in Dubai.
All indications were that the twenty-seven year old tennis player could take part in the WTA Finals again in singles. But that has changed completely in recent months.
Since the tournament in Rome in mid-May, the 2020 Olympic gold medallist has failed to win two consecutive matches. The only exception was Birmingham, where she played the final on grass.
Krejcikova was not in optimal form at Wimbledon or the US Open. That is why she is only 16th in the ranking for the calendar year 2023 with 2003 points. She is currently 1208 points behind the last place.
However, Krejcikova will most likely play at least a doubles match with her compatriot Kateryna Siniakova at the final tournament of the year. The winner of this year’s Australian Open is ranked fifth.
