Croatia has already played two games in B and only got a point. They are currently in fourth place with a negative record of 2:5. To advance, they need to beat Italy, which will definitely not be an easy task.

Croatia entered its 17th European Championship with a duel against Spain, the favourite in Group B. Coach Luis de la Fuente’s selection decided the fate of the match in the first act, scoring three goals.

Croatia could have reduced the deficit in the 80th minute, but Bruno Petkovic missed a penalty kick. The subsequent goal from a stoppage time goal could not stand due to one of the players running into the penalty area before the referee’s whistle and getting involved in the action.

Croatia needed to beat Albania. But its plans were slightly disrupted in the 11th minute by Spartan Qazim Laci, 28, who opened the scoring.

The experienced team around captain Luka Modric managed to turn the result in their favour in the second half with two unassisted goals. However, Klaus Gjasula equalised in stoppage time to atone for his own goal.

This is a huge setback for Croatia . After two games played, they are at the tail end of the table with a negative score of 2:5 and just one point.

After the bronze at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, finishing in the group stage would be a huge setback for the Croatians. However, the difficulty of the group must be understated.

The Croatians will need to score full points in their last game against Italy. In the event of a draw, they would be down to two points, which would probably not even be enough to advance from third place. Out of seven entries, it would only be Croatia’s third group finish.
