A point for Liverpool and Núñez. How did Klopp and Guardiola react to the first clash of the new season?
Manchester City, like Liverpool, have strengthened their squad before the new season, especially in attack, with the arrival of Darwin Núñez and Erling Haaland. The Uruguayan hitman emerged as the winner from the first mutual encounter, but the Norwegian one definitely likes challenges and will pick up the thrown gauntlet without any doubts!

The Uruguayan hitman emerged as the winner from the first mutual encounter, but the Norwegian one definitely likes challenges and will pick up the thrown gauntlet without any doubts!
It wasn’t until the 83rd minute that another very even match was broken by Mohamed Salah, who uncompromisingly converted a penalty to put the Reds ahead. Núñez sealed it in the fourth minute of stoppage time, whereupon Haaland embarrassed himself a few minutes later by throwing away a 100% chance.
” He (Haaland) had chances, two or three in the first half and another at the end of the game, he’s always where he should be. He’s strong, he won’t miss next time. It happened, that’s football. He’s got unbelievable qualities and he’ll prove them. I am absolutely happy with him in the two or three weeks he has been with us.”
It was the Uruguayan striker who started Saturday’s game on the bench and only came on in the 59th minute, replacing Roberto Firmino. However, 11 minutes after his arrival, another promising youngster who is also expected to score a lot of goals, namely Julián Álvarez, came on to equalise at 1-1.
But as already mentioned, the Egyptian pharaoh’s converted penalty and Núñez’s header put a smile on the face of all the fans in red jerseys who could start celebrating.
“I think Darwin would have been fine even if he hadn’t scored the third goal. He did great on the previous chance, but Ederson made a brilliant save. His goal was just the icing on the cake, so I’m very happy for him.”
So the first measurement of strength went better in Liverpool’s favour. Next weekend, however, the Premier League will get underway as the Citizens and Reds are expected to battle it out for the top spot once again.
Interestingly, both teams will kick off the new season of the top English league in London – Liverpool will play Fulham on Saturday and Manchester City will play West Ham.
As Saturday’s match showed, both teams are very well prepared, so without a doubt it will be very interesting matches, in which there should be no shortage of goals and interesting moments.
