A point against the Spaniards, which is disappointing. The Czechs lost the win with goals at the end of both halves
The Czech national team has played its second match of the third edition of the Nations League, drawing 2:2 with the Spaniards in Prague. Both goals were scored at the end of the half, but the point against the favourite is well deserved.
The Czech national team played its second match of the third edition of the Nations League, drawing 2-2 with the Spanish in Prague. Both goals were scored at the end of the half, but the point against the favourite is well deserved.
The Czechs took the lead from the first big chance of the match, Jan Kuchta unselfishly passed to Jakub Pesek in the shootout, who had an easy job. The Czech team was more confident and the Spanish were slowly getting into the rhythm.
It wasn’t until the 26th minute that Pablo Sarabia tried his hand, but missed the net. The second chance of the Spaniards ended in the net. The Czechs were playing without the injured Jakub Jankt, which Gavi took advantage of and gave Tomáš Vaclík no chance with his left foot. The score was 1:1, with the goals coming from the only big chances.
Right after the change of sides Ondřej Lingr could have returned the lead to the home team, but he dug the ball in a good position and didn’t get a shot off. In the 55th minute he went alone at goalkeeper Kuchta, but missed the back post by a few centimetres.
On the other side, Vaclik reacted to a dangerous cross by Ferran Torres and five minutes later substitute Marco Asensio hit the back post. In the 66th minute, the stadium exploded, Kuchta converted this time a raid on goal with a precise lob.
Torres, like Asensio, hit only the bar. By the third time, the goal structure was already playing for the Spaniards, with a header in the 90th minute assisted by a crossbar from Iñago Martinez.
After the draw, the Czechs take their fourth point in the table, and next week they will play Portugal for the top spot.
