A paradox: United unwittingly send up to 300 million to a rival because of Sancho!

Everything seems to be ready. One of the biggest and most anticipated transfers of this summer, that of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United, is now virtually unhindered. Paradoxically, they can now wash their hands at the Etihad Stadium too, as the city rival’s bill will be worth up to 300 million crowns.

On Wednesday, the English media reported that the Sancho case is finally coming to a successful conclusion. After the 21-year-old English striker agreed to the terms of his contract, the two clubs involved were expected to agree on the transfer fee and other details.

To make the transfer official, all that is effectively needed now is a medical examination of the player and his signature on the contract. However, we will have to wait a few more days, maybe even weeks for these officialities. After all, the talented London native is part of Gareth Southgate’s squad fighting at the European Championships.

Apparently, Borussia have agreed with United on a financial compensation of around 85 million euros (nearly 2.2 billion crowns). And, rather ironically, the Red Devils’ biggest rival, Manchester City, will also be happy with this information.

Actually, it is quite reminiscent of the very well-known case of Tomáš Souček and Havlíčkův Brod, who cleverly included in their contract with Slavia Prague that they would get a 10% share of any further transfer of the player.

When West Ham bought him last summer, the Czech international’s birthplace received an absolutely incredible 43 million for such a small team.

With Sancho, it worked out virtually the same. Only on an even much larger scale and with the difference that the recipient is not a small team from a divisional competition, but the reigning English champion.

The latter apparently saw a lot of potential in the player, and so, even though it failed to keep him in its youth academy four years ago, it at least inserted a clause in the contract with Dortmund ordering it to pay 15% of the transfer fee in the event of the player’s next transfer to the Citizens.

Thus, for the transfer of their own offspring to their biggest rivals, the Etihad Stadium will at least receive a generous contribution of around 11.5 million euros (nearly 300 million crowns) for their own reinforcements.

And that money will come in handy for Guardiola and co. this year. After all, after the end of the ongoing Euros, the Spanish strategist plans to strengthen his squad with two absolute English megastars – Jack Grealish and Harry Kane. Both are up for grabs with a price tag in excess of €100 million.
