The new Conor McGregor? It’s not out of the question. Ian Garry arrived in the UFC back in 2021 as the champion of the Cage Warriors organization. Since then, he’s had five fights in the biggest organization in the world and is asking for more and more attention.
It was 2013 when former Cage Warriors lightweight champion Conor McGregor made his first appearance in the UFC. The Irishman won his first seven fights among the world’s elite and even won the title. He became a world star and brought many fans to MMA.
In 2021, another Irishman is headed to the UFC. Like McGregor, he was coming after winning the Cage Warriors title, but at welterweight for a change. And since his arrival, he’s mowed down one opponent after another.
Now 25 years old, Ian Garry has won 5 fights in the UFC, winning twice by unanimous decision on points, and three times he’s been able to finish opponents. And he’s trying to emulate his famous compatriot McGregor in various ways.
We can mention, for example, imitating McGregor’s famous walk. However, he would like to imitate him especially in how famous he has become and also in the fact that he would like to go all the way for the title. But he’s gradually getting closer to that mark.
In fact, on Saturday night to Sunday, he showed up at the UFC event in Charlotte and challenged his toughest opponent yet. Specifically, 15th ranked welterweight Daniel Rodriguez.
And there’s no telling if he’s going to stay in the cage for long. The fight didn’t even last three minutes. Garry hit a great headkick that shook Rodriguez and then it was just a matter of finishing his opponent.
And Garry scored another scalp. This win is guaranteed to put him in the top 15 of the UFC rankings. At 25 years old, an outstanding feat that even McGregor is watching. He doesn’t doubt Garry’s qualities, on the contrary.
On social media, he used a clear message after Garry’s win: “You can’t stop fate.” Garry is currently 12-0 with seven wins by KO/TKO and one by submission.
