A documentary about the man who won the world championship seven times in Formula 1 and etched his name indelibly into the history of the queen of motorsport is set to hit TV screens in the future. We’re talking, of course, about Britain’s Hamilton.
The as yet untitled project will be directed by British filmmaker Matt Kay in collaboration with One Community and Box to Box Films (producers of the Drive To Survive series).
The filmmakers are said to have had full access to the Mercedes driver and have really focused on a lot. Fans will not only see footage from the race track, but also footage outside of it. But we’ll also reportedly see interviews with star guests and some uncovering of Hamilton’s private life.
Former HBO CEO Richard Plepper is set to executive produce alongside Scott Budnick, whose credits include Hangover.
The documentary will then be found in a section called “non fiction/unscripted content” which also includes the life story of NBA star Earvin “Magic” Johnson (titled They Call Me Magic).
“Lewis came from a working-class family and succeeded in a sport where many things were stacked against him. But he shined, showcasing his talents, allowing him to dominate the sport for more than 10 years, ” reads an official statement from Apple TV+.
“Hamilton is currently the only dark-skinned driver racing in F1. He embraced what made him different, and his rise to the top has driven him to use this platform to push for positive change for future generations,” the statement added.
