The Kazakhstan Grand Prix is a new race that fans can look forward to starting next year. The MotoGP organisation itself has confirmed this on its official website.
And how long has MotoGP actually signed with Kazakhstan? According to the latest information, the contract will be for five years and will be raced at the so-called Sokol Circuit, which is located near Kazakhstan’s largest city – Almaty.
Dorna has already confirmed its plans for the Indian Grand Prix last week, with a significant expansion of the MotoGP racing calendar.
“2023 marks the start of a new five-year contract that will see MotoGP land in a new region of the world when a stunning race at Sokol International Racetrack joins the calendar,” MotoGP said in a statement.
“Sokol, located just outside Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, is a brand new motorsport venue built in the heart of Central Asia,” the MotoGP announcement also read.
While the calendar for the 2023 season has not yet been revealed, we already know that it should include 21 events. The premiere of the Finnish Grand Prix was unfortunately postponed as the track was again not completed in time. What’s more, there’s little likelihood of this race appearing on the calendar for the 2023 season.
The new edition will then start on 26 March in Portugal. The traditional season opener won’t involve Qatar this time, as MotoGP has moved this race as the Losail circuit has undergone a major upgrade.
