After the success of Karolina Pliskova, Karolina Muchova tried to do something similar. However, the Wimbledon 2019 quarterfinalist was not so successful. The native of Olomouc did not play a good match and Kerber did not give her any chance. The German defeated Muchova 6::2 and 6::3 and easily advanced to the semifinals. She will face the current world number one Ashleigh Barty in the final.

The match was dominated by a single player throughout. And that was Germany’s Kerber. The favourite entered the match with a great start. She immediately took the serve from Much and quickly took a 3-0 lead. She made almost no mistakes, she was excellent defensively, her tennis was more purposeful.

On the other hand, the Moravian tennis player made a lot of mistakes and did not start well at all. Kerber maintained her level of tennis, didn’t let her opponent make any comeback and won the first set 6: 2.

At the beginning of the 2nd set, there was a glimmer of hope for Muchova. She didn’t take her chance in the first game, but at 1:1 she managed to break her opponent’s serve and won an important break. However, this moment proved to be irrelevant as Muchová broke back the very next moment.

The momentum of the match returned to Kerber’s side. The German played some excellent balls, broke Much again and it was practically decided. The Olomouc native took a break point in the last game, but it was too late. Kerber defeated Muchova 6: 2 and 6: 3 and deservedly advanced to the semifinals of Wimbledon.

For Much herself, this year’s quarter-final is a great achievement. She has been plagued by poor health all season and it was clear in this match that she is not 100%. So equaling her career best Wimbledon result definitely counts.

Kerber confirmed her role as the favourite and her winning streak continues. She has now won 10 matches in a row. She’s in great form, her tennis is almost flawless, she’s great defensively, she plays smart. It seems that the 2018 champion can aim for the title again. She’ll face Ashleigh Barty in the semifinals.
