Manchester United didn’t play Southampton to their liking, only drawing 1-1 on the south coast. Che Adams opened the scoring (the goal was eventually ruled an own goal), Mason Greenwood equalised.

James Ward-Prowse fired the first shot in the first minute, but David de Gea parried it. In the sixth minute, the ball bounced off the crossbar of the Southampton goal to Anthony Martial, whose header from the byline was cleared by Mohamed Salisu.

Then for twenty minutes the game was fought out and full of emotion, until in the 30th minute the home side went ahead out of nowhere.

Che Adams brushed the ball off Fred and David de Gea had no chance. Nemanja Matic should have equalised but Alex McCarthy flashed an excellent save.

That was the last chance of the first half and it was 1-0 to Southampton going into the box. In the 55th minute, it was level. Mason Greenwood’s shot went unluckily through McCarthy’s legs.

Three minutes later, Paul Pogba had a nice individual effort, but missed the right post. Manchester pressed, but Greenwood’s header didn’t find the net.

Adam Armstrong had a chance in the 73rd minute after a Harry Maguire error, but de Gea made a brilliant save. Southampton took a well-deserved point to finish the game with a 1-1 draw.
