Roberto Firmino, a key figure in Liverpool’s line-up in recent years, has decided not to renew his contract with the club after eight years and will become a free agent in the summer.
The Brazilian footballer headed to England in 2015 from German side Hoffenheim. The transfer with all the bonuses cost around 40 million euros.
It was a very successful transfer on Liverpool’s part. In partnership with Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah, they formed a very formidable attacking trio that provided the club with a lot of success.
Roberto Firmino has spent 8 years at the club, during which time he has played over 350 games so far and enjoyed a total of seven trophies which include winning the Champions League.
The two sides have been in negotiations regarding a possible extension to his current contract. However, the Brazilian striker has decided not to extend his contract and leave the club at the end of the current season. His family, with whom he has been dealing with the situation, also played a role in his decision.
Firmino is very grateful to the club and no disputes led him to the decision. The thirty-one-year-old footballer wants to try new challenges.
The striker’s agent has stated that his client refuses to negotiate with any club at the moment. He wants to concentrate 100% only on the current season and give everything to Liverpool until the end.
Firmino and the whole of Liverpool are not enjoying a successful season. The club is struggling and is on the outside of the cup positions due to frequent injuries to its players.
A big question mark also hangs over their Champions League run, as they lost their opening game of the eight-final of the millionaire’s competition to Real Madrid at home by a high score of 2-5.
