Modric has his whole career to prove something to someone. After his transfer to Real Madrid from Tottenham, he was rated as the worst transfer in the club’s history. But he picked himself up, won the Champions League four times and eventually earned the Ballon d’Or for his diligence.
But nothing lasts forever, and certainly not fame. It wasn’t long before everyone started writing Modric off, and at one point he was even only a substitute at Real, coming off the bench.
But it wouldn’t be Modric if he didn’t come back in style. Around the autumn of last season he hit his old form, which has stuck with him ever since. Even at 36, he can reign supreme on the pitch, as he did against PSG.
And he enjoyed the progression through the hated rivals immensely. Club TV caught his post-match celebration, which was pretty wild. Modric first jumped on Alaba in the tunnel, then gave Milito a friendly pat on the back.
With constant shouts of joy, he hugged his teammates who were waiting outside the booth in plain clothes. Then, in the booth, he went around one by one, all his teammates and the implementation team.
“Nothing hurts you. Nothing hurts you!” he yelled at his teammates Nacho, for example. After passing all his teammates, he headed to the recovery room where several members of the management team were waiting. In the meantime, he jumped on the railing as if he had just returned from a hard night.
36 years old. Four Champions League trophies, countless titles, the Ballon d’Or. He’s done just about everything in football, yet he can still get this emotional in the eighth round. That’s why he’s extremely popular with Real Madrid fans.
