A huge success for Czech tennis! Barbora Krejcikova will play the French Open final
The native of Brno had an amazing match. Against her Greek rival Sakkari she won a very valuable 2:1 set victory (7:5, 4:6, 9:7), but she won’t enjoy the celebrations for long, she still has to play a semifinal doubles match with her friend and colleague Katerina Siniakova.
The native of Brno had an amazing match. Against her Greek rival Sakkari she won a very valuable 2::1 set victory (7::5, 4::6, 9::7), but she will not enjoy the celebrations for long, she still has to play a semifinal doubles match with her friend and colleague Katerina Siniakova.
The match lasted an interminable 3 hours and 18 minutes. The first set brought the equilibrium. Then the Greek player leveled up and the third set was to be decided.
Krejcikova was losing at first and had to turn away a match point. She had three match points herself, but didn’t use any of them.
A curious situation happened in the dramatic match, with the score at 8::7 and 40::30 the umpire called Sakkari’s shot as good, while the ball was over the line. Even this tricky situation did not deprive the Czech player of a historic moment in her career.
She dedicated her progress to her former coach and great Czech tennis player Jana Novotna, who passed away in 2017. A legendary tennis player herself, Novotná won several titles, with Wimbledon, Fed Cup and Olympic silverware among the most valuable.
Krejcikova herself said in an interview that she focused on every ball and was happy to have made it this far. She will face Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final on June 12.
