A historic win for Hungary! Beating England after exactly 60 years
Hungary managed to beat a strong England team in the elite group of the Nations League. They won by the narrowest of margins, 1-0, at the National Stadium in Budapest.
Hungary managed to beat a strong England team in the elite group of the Nations League. They won by the narrowest of margins 1:0 at the National Stadium in Budapest.
Hungary’s last win over England dates back to 1962. Back then, the Hungarians managed to win a valuable scalp in the World Cup group stage.
However, they had no idea that they would be knocked out in the quarter-finals by Czechoslovakia, who had reached the final of the tournament.
Gareth Southgate’s charges tasted the bitterness of defeat after 90 minutes after a long run of 22 matches without defeat. The last loss before this match was back on 15 November 2020, when England lost away to Belgium.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal of the game with a penalty in the 66th minute. However, England fans are rightly complaining about the acting of Zsolt Nagy, which earned Hungary a penalty kick.
Although the ball possession was on the side of the guest from the Islands, Hungary still managed to get more shots on target.
England can repair their reputation on Tuesday when they face a strong Germany in the Nations League.
Hungary, on the other hand, will face Italy, who are certainly not in an ideal frame of mind. However, the Hungarians will no longer have the home advantage, which helped them to their historic win against England.
