In the main event of another UFC tournament, Marlon Vera knocked out Dominick Cruz with a brutal head kick to move closer to the top of the division.

Another UFC Fight Night gala held in the USA is over. The main event for the Czechoslovak audience was the second victory of former Octagon MMA fighter Martin Buday in the top league of the world.

But the main fight of the tournament was provided by Ecuadorian favourite Marlon Vera and former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. The highlight of the whole evening was a really great success and the crowd was once again in for a treat.

Even though Vera pulled the short end of the stick in the fight and Dominick Cruz gave a reminder of his former glory days with his performance, the Ecuadorian was the winner in the end. The fourth round brought the moment the whole San Diego arena had been waiting for.

Marlon Vera pulled out his biggest weapon about halfway through the round, and with the next highlight of the night, he certainly claimed maximum attention at bantamweight. He caught his opponent with a brutal head kick that sent the American fighter into dreamland.

Slow motion footage shows that the former division ruler’s jaw got what it was due. Subsequent punches on the ground were unnecessary. For Cruz knew neither the day nor the hour after he went down.

Marlon Vera thus became only the third fighter to finish Cruz before the limit. But the Ecuadorian fighter is definitely showing Dan White and the division that he is a force to be reckoned with with his recent performances. Last November at UFC 268, he showed that it’s definitely not advisable to blink at his fights.

His kick earned him the UFC promoter’s performance of the night award, so he also added a fat $50,000 bonus to his paycheck. He held the fifth position in the rankings before the fight. We’ll see how the division rankings change after the weekend.
