A great tribute to a legend! Busquets at the farewell to the legend and Real Madrid representative

The end of another great era. Sergio Busquets ends his career at Barcelona. The end of another great era. Sergio Busquets ends his career at Barcelona. At 34 years old, he still has a few years ahead of him, but he has not renewed his contract at the club and so a new challenge awaits him. Probably outside Europe. The Catalan giant held a farewell ceremony, where a representative of the hated rival arrived.

One of the greatest legends in Barcelona’s history, one of the best defensive midfielders not only of his time and winner of many trophies. This is Sergio Busquets, who is saying goodbye to the Catalan side.

Already during the earlier years, the Catalan footballer received many words of appreciation. Vicente del Bosque, former coach of the Spanish national team, for example, said it best: “When you watch the game, you don’t notice Busquets. When you watch Busquets, you see the whole game.”

But from the new season onwards, we won’t see as much of Busquets. At the very least, we won’t see him in a Barcelona jersey, possibly not even in Europe. He has done so much for his club that it is no wonder that an official farewell ceremony was organised at the Camp Nou.

Many people arrived in person, with video tributes to Busquets from the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Pep Guardiola. The latter believes that Busquets will become a great coach.

However, a representative of Real Madrid also came directly to Barcelona, namely Emilio Butragueño: “We had to come to express our appreciation for an extraordinary career. Sergio was a huge rival for Real Madrid. Both in attack and in defence. He was the key to Barcelona’s success.”

It’s worth noting that Busquets holds the record for most starts in El Clásico. Butragueño’s gesture as director of institutional relations at Real Madrid only confirms what an exceptional member of Barcelona the outstanding midfielder was.

Busquets played 722 competitive games for Barcelona with a record of 18 goals scored and 45 assists. The world or European champion won 9 league titles with the Catalan side, lifted the Champions League winners’ trophy over his head three times and collected a total of 32 trophies on the club scene.
