Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen will bid farewell to the queen of motorsport at the end of the 2021 season. This was announced by the official F1 website with a link to the Finnish racer’s Instagram profile. The world champion will say goodbye to the formula after almost 20 years.
The 2007 world champion has spent most of his career at Ferrari. He is also the last world champion of the famous Italian stable.
Räikkönen spent the last three seasons with Alfa Romeo, where he drove alongside Italian Antonio Giovinnazi. It could also be said that the “Iceman” was a mentor of sorts to Giovinazzi.
The man who holds the record for the most starts, most kilometres driven and many other firsts in Formula 1 has also tried his hand at rallying and has been with many F1 teams.
Kimi’s last famous win came in 2018 when he won the US VC in a Ferarri.
Räikkönen’s demise should very soon set in motion a series of transfers that have been increasingly talked about lately.
But Räikkönen’s departure will be hard to digest for many a fan of the queen of motorsport.
