From Thursday 13 July to Sunday 16 July, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, known in English as the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will take place as it does every year.
This year, the event will primarily celebrate the round anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, which ran its 100th edition this year, and whose winner was Ferrari.
To mark the occasion, Goodwood will remember as many as 16 previous winners, who will give fans their insights and experiences through interviews. But it is the fans of motorsport, especially Formula 1, who can look forward to something very special.
The son of the famous Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher, will be presenting a 2011 Mercedes car at this year’s Festival of Speed. It was driven by the seven-time world champion after his return to the queen of motorsport.
Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg piloted the car in the 2011 season. Interestingly, the Mercedes from the aforementioned year is the only car from the German stable that did not finish on the podium.
The best result is the fourth place from the Canadian Grand Prix, which was taken by Michael Schumacher. The legendary German finished the year with 76 points to finish eighth in the drivers’ championship. Teammate Rosberg finished seventh with 89 points.
Goodwood also with Vettel and Gutierrez
“Knowing that he has raced this car is extremely special and there will be a lot of emotions attached to it. I have been lucky enough to drive one of his Benetton cars and some of the Ferraris he has raced, but this will be the first time he has driven a Mercedes. I’m sure I’ll come out of this with a big smile on my face,” said Mick Schumacher, quoted by Motorsport.
The young Schumacher is filling the role of reserve driver in F1 this year. And that’s after he finally said goodbye to Haas and the Ferrari academy at the end of last year. He works regularly on the simulator, and Mercedes is satisfied with his services.
But he has only been behind the wheel of a race car once, when he was testing a Mercedes car in Spain. He did 140 laps at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, then returned to the simulator and hard training.
But he won’t be the only driver at this festival who has linked his career to the queen of motorsport. Esteban Gutiérrez will drive the Mercedes W12 that secured the German team’s last Constructors’ Cup championship so far in 2021.
Four-time champion Sebastian Vettel will also be part of the action. He will show cars from his private collection, including the Williams FW14B and McLaren MP4/8.
