Canada promised to bring big stars to Prague. However, Czech fans were slightly disappointed when the 2024 World Cup nomination was announced. However, the Maple Leafs have some very interesting players on their roster and now another big ace is coming.

The biggest favourite for this year’s World Cup? None other than Canada. Last year’s world champion is coming to the Czech Republic to defend. However, it didn’t bring the stars it was expected to. Fans were slightly disappointed when the nominations were announced.

The Maple Leafs promised a star team. This was what guaranteed the group change from Ostrava to Prague. The United States of America are in Group B in Ostrava instead.

Still, Canada has an interesting team. The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the generational talent Connor Bedard, who has already shone in the NHL this year. Only 18 years old, the youngster has had his debut season in the best league in the world and has done very well.

Bedard has played 68 games for the Chicago Blackhawks, accumulating 61 points on 22 goals and 39 assists. An incredible record considering his age.

But Canada will have another huge star on the roster and quite possibly a captain. The seventh highest paid hockey player on the planet is coming to Prague.

Canada is about to get a star captain

The Maple Leafs kept two spots open before the start of the World Championship. But one has already been filled. TSN’s Darren Dreger revealed that John Tavares, captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs and teammate of David Kämpf, will be coming to Prague.

Tavares is the seventh highest earning hockey player on the planet, earning $11 million a year. He has been captain in Toronto for five years. He has 67 points in 87 games this season.

It’s worth noting that Canada got a former No. 1 draft pick who has already won the 2014 Olympics and the last World Cup with the national team in 2016.

Tavares will be making his fourth appearance at the world championship. He scored 16 goals in the previous 22 games. He missed out on the World Cup gold.
