Jiri Prochazka already knows his UFC title fight date! He will challenge Glover Teixeira at UFC 274 on May 7th. After two victories in the biggest MMA organization in the world, he will have a chance to stand on top. What did his manager and coach Martin Karaivanov say about the fight?
It’s been talked about for a long time, today it’s a reality. Practically since his beautiful victory over Dominick Reyes, Jiri Prochazka has been one of the favourites for the title challenger.
In fact, he leapfrogged Aleksadar Rakic in the rankings, who at first rejected him and didn’t want to fight him, since then he hasn’t let up and mentions the name procházka at every turn.
But he won’t get a fight with him, yet. That’s because Reyes will face Jan Blachowicz, who didn’t defend his title when he lost to Glover Teixeira.
So the cards are clearly stacked, with Prochazka taking on Teixeira for the title, Reyes taking on Blachowicz, and those two fights likely to be the opponents for the next title fight.
“I’m happy and I appreciate it, it’s the result of our long journey, but there’s no time for emotions at the moment. We need to get in the gym and work.
We have to think logically and not let ourselves be influenced. Emotions could come after the game,” Procházka’s manager and coach Martin Karaivanov told iDnes about the announced fight.
Procházka will be the favourite in the fight, at least according to domestic bookmakers. But Karaivanov added that Teixeira is definitely not an easy opponent.
“We are going into the toughest match of our career. Most people clearly favour Jiri, but it doesn’t seem like it and I don’t see it that clearly. Glover is a tough guy, he’s got a lot of stamina and a clear plan, he’s dangerous on the ground,” he added.
