A FIFA goal? Watch Canadian Hutchinson’s incredibly funny goal

Canada is heading to the World Cup in Qatar in dominant fashion. The Canadian team followed up its streak of five wins in the last five games with a 2-0 win over El Salvador. This was also helped by a goal that was more like a situation fans know from a FIFA video game. Check it out.

The famous brand is trying to make football as realistic as possible for video game fans. But sometimes situations arise that, at first glance, could never happen in real football.

Canadian footballers are in great form. For the first time in a long time, they have assembled a really strong squad to match their rivals from the USA and especially Mexico. In the current World Cup qualification in Qatar, the Maple Leaf team is undefeated so far, they only need one point to be sure of qualification.

Another successful step came on Thursday morning when Canada took on El Salvador in an away match. The first half ended goalless. But then fortune sided with the Maple Leafs.

It’s the 66th minute of the game, Jonathan David plays a long ball up the right side to a strong Cyle Larin. The Turkish Besiktas striker went over a defender, headed the ball and centred into the penalty area. There he looked for his club teammate, the experienced Atiba Hutchinson.

The latter tried to finish with a dipping header, but only hit the bar. But who would have expected the ball to bounce off the frame of the goal and back onto the back of the already prone Hutchinson, from whom the ball arced past the bewildered Salvador goalkeeper.

Jonathan David then sealed the win 2-0 in injury time. A huge euphoria ensued, with the players celebrating all the way back to their homeland. In the stadium, in the cabin and on the bus. And for good reason, Canada can qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986. It’s just a small step away.
