Slavia did not manage the opening match of the group stage of the Conference Europa League as they had hoped, drawing 1:1 at Sivasspor. The game was played up and down, with Lukáš Provod missing a penalty kick in the end.
Matej Jurásek had the first chance in the third minute, but the home defence blocked his shot. Two minutes later the visitors celebrated, Peter Olayinka robbed one of Sivasspor’s defenders of the ball and then from an angle shot past the goalkeeper.
In the 13th minute, Petr Ševčík tried from outside the box, but only hit the middle of the net. Sešiovans clearly dominated, in the 23rd minute Olayinka missed the back post again by a few centimetres with his header. And the Red and Whites were sorry.
Three minutes later, the home side completed the breakthrough action, Dia Saba shot past Aleš Mandous. Slavia were scalded, but in the 38th minute Ibrahim Traoré had a great chance, but missed the ball well.
The second half started with three offensive changes in the line-up, but still there was some nervousness on the Slavs. It was only in the 60th minute that substitute Ewerton took a header at the back post, but it didn’t go between the three posts.
Four minutes later, Lukáš Provod shot beautifully, but the visitors’ goalkeeper also intervened beautifully. However, the Red and Whites were making big mistakes defensively and it was only a matter of time before the speedy Africans would take advantage.
It was an up and down game with lots of fouls on both sides, the uneven surface clearly not to the liking of the Sevilla players. In the 88th minute Slavia had a breakthrough action, but at the end there was a weak shot by Provoda and an inaccurate finish by Stanislav Tecl.
Christ Tiehi got into the box and was fouled. A second yellow card was also issued to Souleymane Keita for talking. But the penalty kick was not converted by Provod. Slavia thus lost two points in Turkey at the start, but it must be said that they did not deserve three for the game they played and the chances they missed.
