One of the biggest transfer sagas in many years ended on Monday night. Kylian Mbappé is officially a new Real Madrid player. The Frenchman is thus fulfilling a big dream, he has a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. Even Cristiano Ronaldo, whose record may be in jeopardy, is not hiding his excitement.
It’s done. After years of speculation, Kylian Mbappé is officially the new star of Real Madrid, to whom he has signed for five seasons so far. It’s no secret that the Frenchman has been a big fan of the Spanish club since he was a kid, who won their 15th Champions League title this season, still pushing their record.
Los Blancos boss Florentino Pérez has thus accomplished another masterpiece. Bringing in one of the best players on the planet and a potential future Ballon d’Or winner for free? A true masterpiece, even if it took more time than he would have liked.
Mbappé is currently 25 years old, with his best years yet to come. He leaves PSG as a legend, with several records to his name.
During his seven years at the Parc des Princes, the Frenchman became the top scorer in club history with 256 goals. Besides that, he is the second best assist man in PSG history, only Ángel Di María has more assists per goal.
Other than winning trophies and breaking records, he will understandably have no other goals at Real Madrid. He has the motivation taken care of. His dream has come true. He wants to be the best he can be. To make history.
“A dream come true. I’m really happy and proud to have joined my dream club. No one can understand how excited I am right now. I can’t wait to see the fans. Thank you for the incredible support,” Mbappé expressed on social media, posting a photo with Cristiano Ronaldo, among others.
Ronaldo also commented briefly on the transfer. He is looking forward to watching the Frenchman in the white jersey. He did not hide his enthusiasm, he intends to follow his actions.
Will Kylian Mbappé break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record?
Kylian Mbappé at the Santiago Bernabeu? Not surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo himself will be watching the connection. After all, it is certain that the Frenchman wants to attack as many of his records as possible. And that there are not a few of them.
The Portuguese is the top scorer in Real Madrid history with 451 goals across all competitions. He has scored 312 goals in La Liga and 105 in the Champions League alone for Los Blancos.
Apart from that, Ronaldo is the top scorer in Champions League history. He also holds the record for the most LaLiga games in which he has scored three or more goals (34 games). It’s also worth noting that he holds the record for the most goals scored in a season in Real Madrid history, scoring 61 goals in a single season.
Interestingly, he also holds the record for most goals scored in a single Champions League season. If Kylian Mbappé wants to break it, he will have to score more than 17 goals.
There is certainly a lot to build on and a lot to surpass. Ronaldo has not set the bar low at all. But if anyone should be trying to break it, it’s definitely Mbappé. He’ll have great teammates, great support. And given the numbers he’s put up in 7 years in Paris, it’s not impossible that he could surpass Ronaldo.
After all, Cristiano spent nine years at Real Madrid.
