Manchester United’s first Europa League knockout stage match is over. At the Camp Nou, they drew 2-2 and helped to make it an attractive duel. While Marcus Rashford is not happy about the draw against Barcelona, coach Erik ten Hag sees it much more positively.
The game was a rollercoaster, with the second half in particular offering a great spectacle, with four goals. Barcelona took the lead, then Manchester United started the turnaround, however, in the end, they could have been worried about the result. The Catalans equalised and had other chances.
Coach Erik ten Hag was delighted with the performance of his charges. “When you play the number one team in Spain away and you are so dominant, you can see that as a positive. We created a lot of chances, more than you can expect. It’s disappointing that we didn’t convert them,” Sky Sports quotes him as saying.
The former Ajax Amsterdam coach would have been happy if Manchester United had scored four goals. He said that was the minimum that should have been met given the number of chances.
It was his charge Marcus Rashford, who confirmed his excellent form against Barcelona by adding a goal and being present for the Catalans’ own goal, who was not so happy. On the contrary.
“I feel like we lost. We did well when we were able to come back into the game after Barcelona’s goal. We stayed calm and composed, we tried to create chances, we turned the game around. We were in control of the result, but Barcelona are a top team and managed to equalise,” Rashford was heard saying.
The English striker then expressed his hope that the rematch, which will be played at Old Trafford, will be another good game in which the Red Devils will claim victory and with it, promotion.
Manchester United will definitely not be without a chance against Barcelona. The Catalans will have to do without Gavi and Pedri on English soil. The former got dislocated, the latter of the talented footballers got injured and will miss a few weeks.
