The UFC returned to London on Saturday and the biggest draw for Czech fans was Makhmud Muradov, a former XFN and Octagon fighter. He took on seasoned fighter Bryan Barberena. How did he do?
Makhmud Muradov has been the subject of various speculations lately. There is a lot of talk about his future. For one thing, he had two losses in the UFC, he reportedly received a very generous offer from ONE FC, and according to some fans, he’s handling business matters rather than MMA.
However, he was back in action in London on Saturday and he wasn’t expecting anything easy. For his opponent was Bryan Barberena, a seasoned fighter who may not have a very impressive record (18-10) but is hugely dangerous.
Muradov was seen as the favorite, Barberena, like him, had two losses in a row. It was expected to be an attractive duel, even UFC boss Dana White just invited him.
And it certainly wasn’t boring in the cage, however we witnessed a convincing and dominant performance from the former Octagon or XFN fighter. Muradov delivered a tactically perfect performance and dominated all three rounds.
Muradov kept his distance and didn’t let Barberena near his body. In addition to threatening in the standup, he also delivered takedowns. He managed to successfully land 13 of them throughout the fight.
But beyond that, he was able to put the American puncher down twice with his hard punches. There were head kicks, knees and good combinations. Muradov was simply in his element.
He wanted to end the fight early, but Barberena showed great resilience. After all, it was not the first time he had done so.
Muradov won the fight and asked for a new contract. But it’s questionable whether he will sign it. He recently complained about the financial conditions, when he said he earned more money in the Czech Republic.
