A curious return of a legend! Dani Alves returns to Barcelona, what will he bring with him?
As crazy as it may sound, it really is. Dani Alves, who left the Catalan club in 2016, is now back! Barcelona’s new coach Xavi thus has his first reinforcement.
As crazy as it may sound, it really is. Dani Alves, who left the Catalan club in 2016, is now back! Barcelona’s new coach Xavi thus has his first reinforcement.
The 38-year-old veteran did play for Brazil at the Olympics back in the summer, where he helped the Canaries to the coveted gold, but his contract was not renewed at Brazilian club São Paulo.
Xavi took advantage of this situation and brought the experienced Brazilian back to Barcelona, with whom Dani Alves signed a one-year contract with a possible option for another year.
The expected transfer was officially announced on Friday evening on Barcelona’s social media.
However, the question is where Xavi wants to use Alves, as Barcelona are currently somewhat overstretched at his usual position of right-back. In fact, both youngsters Sergino Dest and Óscar Mingueza, as well as the more experienced Sergi Roberto, can play in that position.
The new coach of the Catalan team thus probably needs to balance talent with experience. He has a lot of potential at his disposal, but it’s like diamonds, they need to be polished to perfection.
And who else would be better suited for this purpose than Dani Alves, who has managed to win 43 trophies in his extremely rich career. It is in collecting trophies that he is considered the most successful player in football history!
The experienced right-back has been at Barcelona since 2008, when the Catalan club paid around €35 million for him. He stayed in Spain until 2016, when he moved to Juventus of Turin.
After that, Dani Alves had a stint at PSG and São Paulo. He played 119 games for the Brazilian national team, scoring 8 goals.
