A cruel experience for Filip Panak! What does the public say about his stunt and how does the prestigious server rate him?

Filip Panák had a terrible experience in Glasgow. His miss sent Rangers FC into a two-goal slump, which is hard to do anything about. Attempting a constructive build-up from goal, he fed the ball straight onto the head of Alfredo Morelos, who made no mistake from point-blank range.

Did he find favour with the public? And what about the prestigious statistics site WhoScored?

A moment no footballer wants to experience, to sink his own team with a crude miss. This is the responsibility that most goalkeepers have. When they make a mistake, they’re basically giving the other team a free goal. However, in the Europa League match between Rangers FC and Sparta Prague, this role was played by Filip Panák, a stopper from Letna.

In the build-up to the game, he opted for a risky pass through the air through the small whitewash, which should have gone to Ladislav Krejci Jr., but the ball found the head of Colombian fox Morelos and he made no mistake from close range.

The Spartan stopper immediately fell to his knees and hid his head in his hands. He was well aware of what this goal meant. The score changed from 1: 0 for Rangers FC to 2: 0.

Pavel Vrba’s charges did get some big chances late in the game, but they didn’t score the important goal. Against was the great goalkeeper McGregor, who at 40 years of age, literally worked magic on the goal line.

Public reaction

O2 TV Sport expert and former league footballer Jakub Podaný also commented on the situation

The majority of those discussing the mistake relatively stood up for Filip Panak. In contrast, coach Pavel Vrba was adamant and clearly blamed the 26-year-old stopper for the whole situation.

Rating of the statistical server

The prestigious statistical server WhoScored rated Filip Panak with the lowest mark of all players on the pitch. The Letná central defender received an insanely low rating for the mistake leading to the opponent’s goal (5.29).

But Panak doesn’t have to be sad, according to the statistics server, 3 other Sparta players were rated below 6! Which simply means below average. Namely Ladislav Krejci Sr. (5,78), Michal Sacek (5,8) and Martin Minchev (5,91).

An interesting fact is that Filip Panak had the second highest number of touches with the ball on the whole field (87). His passing success rate was 84% and he won 4 header duels.

The best Spartan according to the data was Ladislav Krejci Jr., he had the most touches with the ball on the whole field (97). He scored one finish, his pass success rate was 85% and he won 4 header duels.

He also had 4 successful dribbles (the most of any player on the pitch) and was fouled twice. WhoScored gave him an above average rating of 7.29.
