A collection of canaries instead of triumphs! The tournament leader will not be happy with victory in Hamburg either

Before the start of the American concrete season, Casper Ruud planned to fight for the triumph in the last clay tournaments remaining on the ATP calendar. It didn’t work out in Bastad, Sweden, or Hamburg, northern Germany. Moreover, the Norwegian player has repeatedly experienced unpopular tennis results. Which of his opponents, on the other hand, have shown the most valuable performances at the current tournament?

For Casper Ruud, clay is the promised surface. Nine of his ten triumphs have been on the slowest surface. His participation in the final of this year’s French Open only confirms this.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the current number four player in the ATP rankings participated in clay events in Bastad and Hamburg. However, he parted with an unpopular result at both.

At the smaller of the events in Sweden, which belongs to the ATP 250 events, he reached the final. In his last match at the tournament, he defied Russia’s Rublyov only in the first set. He lost it only in a shortened game. The next set did not bring Ruud a single game and the unpopular canary was in the world.

Current tournament

Just five days later, the canary sounded again in the Ruud match. By then, the Norwegian was taking part in the most valuable tournament of the last week of July in Hamburg.

and here the canary sang right at the start of the Nor’s match against the talented Arthur Fils. Let’s add that Ruud entered this quarter-final match as a big favourite. But he didn’t win a game in the first set.

After a great start, Fils also won the second set and took one of the biggest surprises in Hamburg. But there were more players who showed a positive side to the German tournament.

Who shone in Hamburg?

First of all, we have to mention the Serbian tennis player Laslo Djere. The twenty-eight-year-old tennis player here surpassed his performance from last year, when he finished in the semi-finals. This year, he won the scalps of defending champion Musetti and China’s Zhang Zhichen and will play the final.

Zhichen also played an excellent tournament and continues to push his limits. In Hamburg, he took on home stalwarts Hanfmann and Altmaier and played his first semi-final on the ATP circuit.

Alexander Zverev rarely plays a bad tournament. On home soil, he will finally see a final appearance. This week, he finally made it through the semifinals successfully. This year on his fifth attempt.

The former world number two has a chance to attract attention with his sporting performance. In recent weeks, the headlines have been dominated by news from the tennis player’s private life.
