Jiri Prochazka yesterday announced the final date and location of the expected title rematch for the UFC welterweight championship belt. A clear goal, but also a big responsibility. How does the champion react to his first defense?

Walk knows the date and place of his title defense

It’s finally here! MMA fans in our country will get a Christmas present they almost didn’t expect. Speculation about Jiri Prochazka’s return for a title rematch with Glover Teixeira in 2023 has been gaining real momentum in recent weeks.

But all is different in the end. Not Brazil, not Australia, not Las Vegas after all. UFC 282 will see a rematch in December that has become one of the most memorable fights of the year and of the entire history of the welterweight division.

In it, Jirka Prochazka turned around a losing fight with just seconds left in the fifth round and forced the champion from Brazil to tap out. Although the fight brought the fans present out of their seats, the Moravian samurai was not satisfied with his performance. That’s why he asked for a rematch with Teixeira.

A clear goal, but a big responsibility

“It’s a clear goal for me, meta,” Procházka reacted in an interview with iSport.cz to the announcement of the title defence. “I will enjoy the training process even more now, because it is much better to train when you know exactly what the purpose is and where you are going,” he explained.

“On the one hand, it throws me into such a big responsibility for everything that’s going to happen around it,” he said. “But at the same time, I enjoy that I just clearly feel the energy that drives me to do it,” he described his feelings.

“I know what I want to show there and what the main goal is,” he described a clear vision of the match. “I’m more aware of the things I want to show with an opponent like Glover, and I didn’t show at all in the first fight, absolutely,” he recalled of the June fight.

“So I’m really looking forward to it, it’s like our first fight, but with the difference that I’ve learned my lesson, I know what I want and don’t want,” he outlined the change he wants to make for the rematch. “Now we just have to do it,” he added.
