A cane: We don’t want an autumn without cups. I’ve corresponded with Petrasek
Slavia will play their last Conference game on Thursday at 6 pm. Two steps have already been taken, the third and probably the most difficult one is still ahead of them. There’s a lot at stake, whoever drops out won’t play in the cups at all in the autumn. Tomáš Holeš hasn’t experienced that in Slavia and he doesn’t want to.
Holeš has been at Slavia since the summer of 2019 and has undergone a big transformation in that time. He originally came in as a replacement at right-back for Vladimir Coufal, so at first he sat on the bench and thoughts crept into his head about whether leaving for Eden was the right choice.
However, after Tomáš Souček’s departure, Jindřich Trpišovský started to try him at the shield midfielder position and there he found himself. He has all the attributes that a demanding Slavia coach needs – he is fast, strong, aggressive, great defensively and can also help the attack with a goal or an assist.
He has gradually developed into a key player and wears the captain’s armband in the absence of Jan Bořil and Stanislav Tecl in the starting lineup.
And he will lead Slavia into the battle with Raków in the same way. Holeš is well aware that it is a big deal.
“We don’t want to play the autumn without cups, that has never happened to me in Slavia and I don’t want to experience it. We have to match them with our desire,” Holeš said at the press conference.
By the way, there will also be a big meeting, although not on the field. The captain of the Polish team is Tomáš Petrášek, who has been dragging Raków since the third league. He and Holeš won the junior title together in Hradec Králové, so they were in easy contact before the match, although Petrasek will not play due to injury.
“Tomas is my teammate from the national team, we played together in Hradec Kralove, we even won the youth title. We wrote to each other, but only in general, nothing specific. It’s an advantage for us that he doesn’t play, he’s the captain, he’s been here since the beginning, he’s a very dangerous player on standard occasions. At the same time, I am sorry that he will not play, I would have liked to play against him,” said Holeš about his national teammate.
Raków went from the third Polish league to the European Cup in six years. Two names in particular shine in that rise, coach Marek Papszun and captain Tomas Petrasek, both of whom helped pull the club from the third league to the elite.
“I was very impressed with the club and we discussed with Tomas Petrasek their way up. He’s the same coach, they’ve done a lot of work together. They’ve been promoted from the lower leagues, won the cup and the Super Cup twice. Raków is still going up, hats off to them!” paid tribute to the opponent, the midfielder of Slavia.
