A brawl between Chelsea players? This is the last time I will accept such behaviour, comments Pochettino emphatically
Chelsea defeated Everton 6-0 in the 33rd round of the Premier League on Monday, leaving only three points between them and sixth-placed Newcastle. But the performance and the result were somewhat overshadowed by a scuffle and an argument between the players over who would kick the penalty. After the game, coach Mauricio Pochettino was clear about the incident.
Chelsea defeated Everton 6-0 in the 33rd round of the Premier League on Monday, leaving only three points between them and sixth-placed Newcastle. But the performance and the result were somewhat overshadowed by a scuffle and an argument between the players over who would take the penalty. After the game, coach Mauricio Pochettino made his views on the incident clear.
Chelsea practically decided the outcome of the game against Everton in the first half. Cole Palmer, who opened the scoring in the thirteenth minute, wrote a very bold letter under the three points.
Palmer increased the Blues’ lead five minutes later when Pickford managed to dislodge a shot from Jackson, but he was short on the former Manchester City player’s finish and the Everton fans knew it was bad.
And in the 29th minute he completed his hat-trick. Pickford ran from the whitewash and decided to cross, but it was Palmer who caught his pass. The 21-year-old Englishman is doing very well at the moment. He has sent two balls into the Burnley net, and scored a hat-trick against Manchester United.
He even scored four times against Everton when he scored from a penalty in the second half, specifically in the 64th minute. The penalty kick, however, was preceded by a scuffle between Chelsea players who were arguing over who would take the penalty kick.
First Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson fought for the ball, and after a few moments Thiago Silva calmed them down. Then Palmer came for the ball, which led to another scuffle. The situation was finally resolved by captain Conor Gallagher, who designated Palmer as the penalty taker.
This is the last time I will accept this kind of behaviour, Pochettino said
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino then pointedly reminded the post-match press conference that Palmer is the penalty taker. And he also made clear his views on the whole incident.
“Discipline is the most important thing in our team and the offensive players must show that they are hungry for goals, but I am not going to accept this situation. I will be very strong. I promise it won’t happen again,” Pochettino said at the post-match press conference.
“Palmer is a player who has to take penalty kicks. It can’t happen again, we can’t behave like children again. I told the players that this is the last time I will accept such behaviour. This is not a joke. I will repeat it very clearly – Palmer is a penalty taker,” the Chelsea coach added.
