The composition of the final two has surprised many. In the play-offs there were teams like Barcelona, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig and West Ham. However, it was German Frankfurt and Scottish Rangers who made it to the final.
Both teams are characterised by a characteristic phenomenon – they have great fans who can create a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. But at the same time, they are very feared on trips through Europe, as they often cause big problems with their rioting.
And now the two camps will meet in one city, Seville. Sevilla’s home stadium, FC Ramón Sanchéz Pizjuán, will host the Europa League final, and Spain has had recent experience with Frankfurt fans.
Eintracht faced Barcelona in the quarter-finals and over 35,000 German fans travelled to Catalonia for the rematch. The white invasion at the Camp Nou eventually helped Frankfurt reach the semi-finals. Meanwhile, 100,000 Eintracht fans signed up for the trip to Seville, tickets notwithstanding.
Former Rangers players Graeme Souness, Ian Durrant and Richard Gough also sent messages to the Rangers fans.
“Our team did incredibly well. When you consider where we were 10 years ago and now we’re playing a European final, it’s fantastic. They’ve done their part, now it’s your turn.
Go to Seville, but behave – enjoy the party, but make sure you behave because you go there as ambassadors for our great club, our Rangers.
Go there and behave, otherwise we will reap all the nasty headlines that will damage us for a long time. Please behave and enjoy your selves,” Souness, Durrant and Gough told the fans.
The city of Seville is doing everything it can to make sure everything goes smoothly. Police patrols have been increased from Tuesday to Wednesday, and the town hall has also had 110 portable toilets installed in the busiest places.
At the same time, 200 workers from a cleaning company will be keeping the streets clean. Public transport will also be reinforced, and the city has also listed on its website the zones in which it does not recommend ordinary people to move.
