A big inconvenience for Bayern Munich. The long-time top scorer of the Bavarian club is apparently on his way out and refuses to extend his contract. Several foreign media are reporting this.

Bayern Munich won their tenth league title in a row and are slowly figuring out how to put together a squad for next season to compete in the Champions League as well, where they were knocked out by Villarreal this season. However, apart from making suitable additions to the squad, he will probably have to deal with one major inconvenience.

The foreign media, led by Kicker and GOAL, are reporting that Bayern will have to do without their legendary and best striker Robert Lewandowski next season, who has reportedly refused to renew his contract.

The Polish cannonballer has one more season left on his contract in Munich and Bayern have offered him a one-year extension. Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller have also received similarly long contracts, but Lewandowski wants a longer deal.

So one of the best players on the planet at the moment sees his future elsewhere. There have been rumours of Barcelona’s interest for several months now, but things are taking a completely different turn now that the specific details of a possible transfer have started to be discussed.

Barcelona were supposed to lure Lewandowski on a three-year deal and the transfer should happen now in the summer. If that happens, Bayern will demand €40 million for the 34-year-old midfielder.

However, it has yet to be decided who will replace the Polish striker. Dortmund have brought in Karim Adeyemi, while Erling Haaland has signed for Manchester City. There are not many strikers of that quality on the market. So the possibility is still in play that if Bayern can’t find a replacement, Lewandowski will leave for free in a year.

Lewandowski is historically the second highest scorer in Bayern’s history. He played 373 games for the Bavarian club, scoring 343 goals and adding 72 assists.
