A blow for Barcelona and its support. Gavi could miss the rest of the season, the Euros and the Olympics due to injury
In Sunday’s qualifying match for the next Euro, Spain managed to beat Georgia in an already unimportant match for the standings. The hosts controlled the game and won 3:1. However, the feelings after the win must remain rather bitter. The midfielder Gavi already grimaced in pain in the first half and went into the bowels of the stadium. Initial tests are not positive and point to a torn cruciate ligament in his knee.

Going into the match against Georgia, La Roja made nine changes to the starting line-up compared to the previous game against Cyprus. One of the two players who jumped into the starting lineup for both games was Gavi.
His fatal moment came in the 24th minute when he mis-stepped while trying to handle a flying ball in an offside position and started holding his knee after an unnatural-looking move.
Tears soon appeared on Gavi’s face and he soon left the pitch and went straight to the booths. Unfortunately, the hospital in Valladolid confirmed the worst-case scenario and diagnosed him with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.
According to the initial tests, the duration of the absence is estimated at 6-8 months, which would mean the end of Gavi’s season in Barcelona and his participation in the Euro and Olympic Games would also be at risk.
The final length of the absence will be known in the coming days, with Gavi undergoing further tests in Barcelona on Monday.
This is a noticeable loss for Barcelona, as Gavi has started all the league games except the last game against Deportivo Alavés, when he was suspended for yellow cards.
Ferran’s nice gesture and the big clubs without their mainstays
November’s national team round will ensure that the rosters of other big clubs will be thinned out. Real Madrid is counting on the losses of Vinicius Jr. and Camavinga. PSG will miss youngster Zaire-Emery, who scored on his debut for France, only to subsequently not play due to ankle problems.
Andrea Bastoni was injured for Inter Milan and star Erling Haaland was also in trouble. However, the Norwegian striker should not be a serious injury as he should be available for Saturday’s game against Liverpool.
Gavi’s injury, in terms of length of absence, looks by far the most serious. He received support after the game on social media from his Barcelona teammates and the national team.
A very nice gesture was then made by his Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres, who remotely dedicated his goal to Gavi while holding his jersey.
