A big boost will be followed by a big purge. Who will Manchester United get rid of this year?

Manchester United have already managed to complete the transfer of Jadon Sancho, who is expected to be followed by Raphael Varane. Two big names that will tremendously boost the already high quality in the Red Devils squad. However, this reinforcement will be carried away by more than one player sitting on the bench.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to put Manchester United back in a position of being a feared opponent in a relatively short space of time. And the incoming duo only confirms the great ambitions that the English side has.

At the same time, however, it obliges the Norwegian coach to be able to win either the Premier League or the Champions League. Every season without a trophy will put more and more pressure on the team, which Solskjaer might not be able to withstand.

Similarly, last season saw Frank Lampard, who strengthened vehemently last year, but the expected results did not come and so he had to pack up from Stamford Bridge.

But let’s now go back to Manchester United, where according to ESPN, a major purge is about to take place, which is expected to affect up to 8 players. Specifically, the following players should be up for sale: Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Alex Telles, Diogo Dalot, Phil Jones, Daniel James, Brandon Williams and Andreas Pereira.

The perpetually injured Phil Jones has been at Old Trafford for 10 years and has played just 224 games in that time. He boasts at least one league title and probably his last. At 29, he has nothing left to offer the first team.

The much-discussed positions are both ends of the defence. Neither of the trio of Alex Telles, Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams have convinced Solskjaer much and there is talk in the English media of new reinforcements.

However, Dalot and Williams are still very young and can be expected to be on loan. Especially with the 20-year-old Englishman, who is a Red Devils offspring.

The creative midfielders Lingard and Pereira are quality players, but they are certainly not enough for the current Manchester United and a possible stay can be expected only with the first named. However, the overload in midfield will most likely push both out of the team.

Facing even more competition is the speedy James, whose departure certainly makes sense.

There is also speculation over the transfer of Martial, with Mason Greenwood likely to take over at right wing, leaving the position to new signing Jadon Sancho.

But I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the Norwegian coach’s current problems are certainly very pleasing. On the other hand, with that comes great expectations!
