The start of the new week in Manchester was pretty rough. The Citizens signed Calvin Phillips for £45m, Gabriel Jesus left the club for the same amount. The Brazilian striker has joined Arsenal.

The arrival of Jesus solved Arsenal’s most problematic position in the form of a top striker. Alexandre Lacazette left, as did Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the winter, leaving only young Eddie Nketiah, a rotation player.

The midfield also needed to be strengthened. Thomas Partey has been plagued by injuries and hasn’t been in his top form at Arsenal so far, Granit Xhaka has been having lapses and he’s not a player who should play forty-fifty games a season. At the very least, Mikel Arteta can’t rely on that.

That’s why Fabio Vieira, a twenty-two year old all-rounder from FC Porto, has arrived. He has already scored thirteen goals for Portugal’s number eleven, boasting a 6+14 record in the league.

After the purchase of Vieira and Jesus, defense is again the biggest issue. Considering the injury to Kieran Tierney, it would be good to bring a left winger into the rotation, who will become the team’s number two at that position once the Scottish leader recovers. Nuno Tavares hasn’t stood out in this position, he would benefit from a loan spell at another Premier League club.

But apart from the left-back position, at least Arsenal’s starting line-up looks promising. A reliable Aaron Ramsdale in goal, promising defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White and Gabriel, midfielders Thomas Partey and Vieira (or Xhaka), with Odegaard, Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka in front of them and Jesus on the top.

Given the age of the wingers, it would still be sensible to buy one winger. Nicolas Pepe didn’t hold up as first sub on either side of the attack, frustrated by the low game time. There is a need to bring in someone who will take on this role in a more sporting manner.
