A bailout from the crisis? Sevilla reportedly interested in Barcelona’s Depay
Seville has not experienced a similar crisis for a long time. While last season it was chasing the big three for the title, this season it has the opposite problems and is only held to the last non-relegation place by the score. So they must look urgently for reinforcements in the winter and they have found one in Barcelona.

Sevilla were the biggest surprise in La Liga last season. Until about February, it held on to sole place and was the only one able to threaten Real Madrid for the title. Eventually, they fell away and Los Blancos came away with the trophy by a wide margin, but the Rojiblancos still deserve credit.
It’s just that in the summer, the sporting director Monchi must have lost his mind, there’s no other explanation. He sold off the team, the biggest loss being the sale of the quality stopper duo Jules Koundé (Barcelona) and Diego Carlos (Aston Villa).
That wouldn’t have been terrible, but the problem is that he didn’t replace these players in any way. No quality stoppers came in and Julen Lopetegui was left to his fate.
Once he had to use a defensive midfielder at stopper, once a youngster from the youth team. A crazy defensive performance and an equally futile attack have caused Sevilla to find themselves only 17th in the table.
And the woeful attack is to blame. Sevilla have the third lowest number of goals scored in the league. Of the forwards, only Rafa Mir has scored twice, while Youssef En Nesyri and Kasper Dolberg have not scored once in the league.
Barcelona reinforcements
Logically, Sevilla must solve the situation. According to the Spanish server Fichajes, the Andalusian team is interested in Memphis Depay.
The Dutch striker came to Barcelona as a free agent last year and at least in the autumn he helped the team a lot, scoring 12 goals in the league and adding one in the Europa League.
But the competition has swept him away a bit. Already the winter arrival of Aubameyang, Torres put him a bit behind, the summer arrivals of Lewandowski and Raphinha moved him to the second place.
Injuries added to that and Depay sat on the stands all autumn. He only featured in two league games and one in the Champions League against Plzeň.
A move to Sevilla could be a liberation for him. And it would be a mutual help, Sevilla need a quality striker and Depay a good team where he could play regularly.
